What did you do for your summer vacation?

I was wondering what classmates were up to this summer. Please take a moment to send me a quick e-mail describing anything you might have done . . . a fun trip, relaxing at home, whatever. If we get enough responses, I will post a summary.

Team Harkness spent much of the summer on the water. We visited Northern Michigan and swam in lakes both big and small. We also marched in the Johannesburg (Michigan) July 4th parade and, later in the summer, some of us visited the livestock exhibit at the County Fair. It was a big change of pace from Connecticut. When not in the North, we visited the South, spending a relaxing sojourn in Charleston and Hilton Head, South Carolina. Lisa also made it to Europe for business, and took our oldest daughter with her. They were able to visit Paris and Cambridge, England -- so our daughter was able to get a taste of French cuisine and the working world, all on the same trip.

So, what did you do?

The Koulen clan did not visit Paris, not even Paris, TX. We went to Branson, MO, home of the Andy Williams Moonriver Dinner Theater, numerous Early Bird Special dinner buffets and a string of gas stations named Kum & Go.

From Val Norton:
I went to Cuba in June with the Yale Alumni Chorus! It was another fantastic YAC trip and you can read all about it in a tour summary that I wrote for the YAC webpage. Fellow 87's Kathy Edersheim and Sonya Baker (our soloist) were also on the tour and we managed an 80's table for at least one meal. Highlights included singing with Cuban choirs, seeing tropical birds in a nature preserve, visiting Havana's fabulous museum of Cuban art, and finding a live crab in the toilet at a fancy restaurant (yes, it came up through the pipes from the ocean).

For any of you former glee club members that have not yet been on a YAC trip, I strongly encourage you to consider going on one in the near future. The next one is schedule for next June and will be to Turkey, Georgia, and Armenia. Kathy Edersheim is the tour organizer!

Next time in Paris, drop in on us!!

For our part, we had two trips: a week in Sweden (in and around Stockholm) for those long summer nights. Part 2 was a trip around France (there's so much to see for such a small country!) including a huge theme park around French culture called Le Puy Du Fou -- definitely worth a visit, although better know a bit of French.
