        AYA Board of Governors
I’m writing today to ask for your participation in the Yale Medal nomination process.  Each year the Association of Yale Alumni confers up to five Yale Medals to recognize outstanding individual service to the University.  All of us have had the good fortune to meet incredible alumni and other volunteers in the course of our service to Yale.  I hope that you will take a few minutes to consider whether you know of someone you wish to nominate for the 2013 Yale Medal.
Up to five Yale Medals will be awarded at the Yale Medal Dinner, which will be held at the AYA Assembly this coming November.  These awards are based on the sole criterion of outstanding service to Yale.  Recipients do not necessarily have to be Yale degree holders.  Recipients must, however, be present at the dinner to accept the award in person.
As you consider nominations, please keep in mind Yale's diverse population of alumni and friends.  Many different paths can be taken to provide outstanding service to the University.  Anyone whose service merits exceptional recognition is eligible.  We need your help to identify candidates, especially those who might not otherwise come to our attention.  Note that because the award is given primarily and typically for volunteer service to Yale, the committee only rarely considers current or past members of the University administration, faculty, or staff.
Thank you very much for your involvement in this important process.
As the Committee will begin work before long, please complete the nomination form which can be found at http://aya.yale.edu/content/yale-medal.  Once you have completed the form, please e-mail it to our AYA Executive Director Mark Dollhopf at mark.dollhopf@yale.edu or fax it to him at 203-432-8144 no later March 22, 2013.
The AYA Board and the Yale Medal Committee appreciate your assistance in identifying potential candidates for this prestigious award.
